Changeling Movie Reviews
User reviews on Changeling
Changeling is Clint Eastwood’s newest mystery, suspense movie. It definitely has a darker edge to it as seen in the cinematography. It is a darker film but then what movie about a child being kidnapped is really that up beat anyways?
Angelina Jolie does a wonderful job of playing a distressed mother who refuses to give up on the idea that her child is still alive and out there. And the period costumes and sets are just wonderful. John Malkovich is always a very powerful presence on screen and this movie is no different, I almost wish that he had more scenes in more of the movie. Colm Feore has a very strong showing as well and though you don’t like him he definitely hold his own in the movie.
Although the storyline is compelling it’s also a little on the slow side. I kept waiting for something to happen and it never really did. I realize that it can take awhile to tell a story but this just took too long. It is very dialogue heavy, and some of the parts could have been shortened to keep the movie moving along.
Also interesting in the movie is how she is not the only woman that the police force is trying to silence. I really liked that angle and I thought the other women’s stories were pretty interesting.
I would recommend this to anyone that likes Clint Eastwood movies (directing not acting). It’s a little slow but it is a really good story and worth getting through.
They always used to call Clint Eastwood the Prince of Darkness as a director cause his films are so visually somber, shadowy and dark. But even he couldn\'t resist giving in to Angelina Jolie\'s famous lips. They are startlingly large and red in \"Changeling.\" (Did women really have lips like that in the 1920s?) She does a good job as a mother whose missing kid is returned to her, except that maybe he isn\'t really her child. Of course, the authorities (the LAPD proving that they were corrupt even before James Ellroy started to take notice). But, jeez, what parent wants to see a movie like this? It\'s enough to give you nightmares.
Excellent!!! If Angelina does not at least get nominated this year (remember the Daniel Pearl Story? Mighty Heart.)I am convinced that the Academy is full of retards! She was so moving , so believable. Her torment, and her strength. I loved it.
The only slightly weak spot were some of the child actors seemed like child actors if you know what I mean. The oldest boy the one who tells about the ranch is quite good, but the others were not so great. Also a really strong role for Amy Ryan from gone baby gone. I bet she gets a nod for co-star. At least I hope, she was great!
This off course was a technically superb film. And I say film in acknowlegement to the level of best performance and presentation as opposed to movie. It was thought provoking...mostly about the face of evil. I did question why the mother did not check with the neighbors who where checking in on her son. I later wondered why they did not talk with the boy who was the \"accomplice\" in the murders. It was somewhat gratifying that her suffering helped others. Very good movie.
