This is an international art house drama about love. It tells a story about two people separated by time and place but their fate is connected in profound and mysterious way. The film chronicles the parallel fates of Jacqueline, a young mother with a disabled son in 1960s Paris, and Antoine, a recently divorced, successful DJ in present day Montreal. I really liked this film and I think it is worth seeing in the theaters. Although you will most likely enjoy this film if you like certain kind of movies. It is a gorgeous, flashy widescreen epic that will cause a lot of emotions and feelings inside of you. The film is amazing visually and I thought that the parallel stories were powerful and moving even though the connection between the stories was not strong enough. The acting and soundtrack are spot on and I thought this film was great overall.
I am very conflicted about this film and I am not sure if I liked it or hated it. I liked how atmospheric and beautiful visually the film was, i also enjoyed the story. However, the film was also very frustrating because it did not have a nice flow and what was intriguing in the beginning became annoying in the end. I also found the film to be a bit too melodramatic for my taste but the acting was really amazing. This is definitely one of those films that leave you a bit confused and wrestling with your emotions. Overall, I suggest seeing this film at the comfort of your home instead of seeing it in the theater.
