Oh yes, drama it is, but pretty light-hearted overall. The plot proceeds at a good pace and lets us get to know each character at that. More than that, the plot twists progress in synchrony with the development--and, eventually, profound change--in each of the three main characters (Stephen, Bloom, and Penelope). Dialogues, action, and acting performance are so richly nuanced as to provide intricate clues for in-depth interpretation of what ultimately drives these people's actions. Oh, not that Bang Bang and other supporting characters are bland or cliché--they, too, are vibrant all right. This is storytelling craftsmanship of old in a fresh and original movie of new.
