The bandwagon is full on this overrated, well acted psychological "thriller." Way to many inconsistencies, but may work well as a calling card for bi-polar disorder.. I wouldn't know. Yaaaawwwn.

Natalie Portman is one of the best actresses of this time. does a great job but there's something too simple about this movie. Worth the time and money though! Darren Aronofsky , what can I say? Interesting mind.

As a participant in the arts as an actor, and singer who has participated in the arts for over half a century I'd like to say that this film was made by people who LOATHE the arts. Though the acting is quite fine, the depiction of artists and dancers as self-loathing , mutilation-prone creatures is misleading and appalling. Those responsible for the film as well as the misguided poster of the comment above need to sit down and watch "The Red Shoes" (1947) for a REAL look at the world of ballet and the compulsion that drives the artist to the end. Children, check out the past before you spout that you know all about it.

Visually stunning from the opening scene and consistent throughout, the imagery lends itself to a nightmarish but beautifully acted out plot. The perfect balance of Yin and Yang. If you don't like this film you're oblivious to the arts, intellectual film and thinking for yourself. Stick to your brain-dead thoughtless, uncreative Hollywood hype movies, Sheeples. Baa, baa. This film not only deserves best actress but also best film of the year! Amazing, fascinating, magnificent, macabre, brilliant!

Not convinced. The story line did not flow well and the plot was at times strange with no clear direction. On the bright side, Natalie Portman gave a good performance and some of the ballet scenes were impresive. The ending was disappointing and anti climatic. Did not understand on the hype.

Director Aronofsky's psychological horror film affords us raw and disturbing insights into the world of the ballerina. French actor Vincent Cassel is the hypnotic and menacing musical director who cruelly but effectively transforms Natalie Portman (Nina) from a brilliant White Swan into a smoldering and evil Black Swan. Her performance wins her the Golden Globe award for best actress. Although the film jars one's emotions and is not for the sqeamish, it is a masterpiece of its genre and should not be missed.

Director Aronofsky is a risk-taker whose gambles don't always pay off. Sometimes his imaginative leaps leave his audience behind, but this film absolutely works on all levels. It makes us descend into madness with main character Nina, at an exponentially-rising speed that becomes breathless and horrifying at the end. We start off as clueless as she is about the utter dysfunction of her life and the deep forces tearing her apart; we experience her bewilderment and horror as the Black Swan she must find within tries to erupt into her consciousness and even through her skin as she tears at the places where her wings (freedom) and her talons (self-protection) would be.
PLEASE don't take the kids to see this unless you hate them or have tons of dough to pay for their psychotherapy later.

This was an incredibly powerful movie. I would love to watch it again and again. Natalie Portman is not only breathtaking but awe-inspiring. I could say without any hesitation that this movie left an impression on me. There are no words to describe the sheer brillance of Black Swan. This movie was made with great taste, emotion, and should be considered a work of art.

Sad, after all the hype, even while watching I could have cared less. Not an interesting character in the entire film. It must be classed right up there with The Postman for boring. Performances OK but the screenplay is tedious and full of more holes than Swiss cheese.
