I think this film is alright but I do not think it is worth seeing in the theaters, renting it is a better and cheaper idea. The film had an interesting story and the lead actress did an amazing job with the role, it was a pleasure to watch Ingrid Jonker and I was highly impressed. I also really liked the cinematography in this film and I thought that it was directed pretty good as well. Unfortunately, the film was full of cliches and stereotypes and it was overly sentimental and emotional and i am definitely not a fan of that. Overall, I think this film could have been excellent if it was bit more intimate instead of being mechanical.
I thought this film was pretty good and I think it is worth seeing in the theaters. i did not know much about Ingrid Jonker and I had a great time learning about her life and work. She seemed to be a very interesting and a bit crazy and I think that actress Carice van Houten did an amazing job playing her, I hope I see more of this actress in the future. This film has everything: love, politics and craziness, I was very engaged in this film and it held my attention till the very end. I liked how Jonker’s poetry is incorporated in the film and really liked her poems. The film is a bit sad because the main character is kind of tragic and her story does not end well but it is very interesting to watch the journey. Overall, I recommend seeing this film in the theaters.
This is a biopic about South African poet Ingrid Jonker, the film is directed by Paula van der Oest and stars Rutger Hauer, Carice van Houten and Liam Cunningham. I did not know anything about Jonker before I saw this film and i still really liked it and found it to be very interesting. My friend who is an English major really wanted to see this film and dragged me with him and i am very happy he did. I thought the film was interesting and powerful and I definitely learned about Ingrid Jonker and later picked up a book of her poetry and it is wonderful. The film was a bit sad at times, I also found that Jonker was a very strong individual with strong opinions and I liked that the director did not try to make her look softer. I was very impressed by Carice van Houten’s performance, it was really terrific. Overall, I recommend seeing this film in the theaters.
