Surprisingly, there was quite a bit of suspense/action in this latest Nicholas Sparks offering. The acting was well done; and it moved at a pretty brisk pace. There are elements of The Notebook which are noticeable almost immediately; however the 'family' of the boy-from-the-wrong-side-of-the-tracks would quite likely have a photo in a dictionary under the definition of 'white trash'. In fact, the movie is worth viewing if for no other reason than to watch the excellent performance of the 'patriarch' of this clan as he pulls off sides of menace, cruelty, hay-seed, and even a little bit of sympathy. While I wasn't necessarily enamored with the ending (Much like in Mr. Brooks with Kevin Costner), it was 'fitting'. This is decidedly NOT a family movie though; so be forewarned.
