This is teen romance film that stars Alex Pettyfer, Vanessa Hudgens, Mary-Kate Olsen, Lisa Gay Hamilton, and Neil Patrick Harris. It is yet another teen movie that scratches the surface and never goes deep enough to truly teach the teen about the right values and attitudes. I think the young actors did an O.K job with the material that they were given. Vanessa Hudgens is believable enough and she is sweet. Alex Pettyfer does an alright job as Kyle and I think he tried to develop the character and give him more depth. Neil Patrick Harris is hilarious in his role as a blind tutor and I enjoyed watching him. I do not like the message that the film was sending out to the young girls(that every jerk has a heart of gold inside). Overall, I do not recommend seeing this film or letting your teenager see this film(not that you can really stop her/him).

Not good. That is the first thing I need to say about this movie. I bet the only people who will enjoy this film are little girls who love bad boys. This movie is like a tribute to bad boys. The film is a remake of Beauty and the Beast. In Beastly, the main character is a hunky bad boy who has everything. He treats people poorly because he thinks he is God’s gift. A spell is put on him and he is turned into a “beast,” a terribly ugly person who still happens to be good looking. All that happens is he has scars on his face and body. To remove the spell he has to get a girl to love him with his current form, which means having inner beauty. The movie moves pretty quickly but is constantly predicable. There was no point during the movie that I was surprised. The acting was decent, but the accents sounded fake. Decent movie overall but I wouldn’t suggest seeing it in theaters.

Beastly is basically an old Disney movie set in modern times. It feels like a teen drama but with the plot of Beauty and the Beast. The main character is a hunk who has no inner beauty. Because of this a spell is set on him that turns him into a beast. He must then find a girl to love him to reverse the spell. Plot spoiler: he does. The movie was so obvious the entire way through. The acting was poor and the story left me wanting more. Maybe this film just wasn’t for my demographic but I can’t see anyone really enjoying this film unless they are a teenage girl, and even then it would be doubtful. The movie was pretty dark at times but even that didn’t save the movie. I just couldn’t get into it. It felt so corny and predictable the entire time. With the theme they were going for I don’t think I should have expected much more. Poor film overall.

Beastly is the retelling of the Beauty and the Beast story set in modern times. The movie felt like Beauty and the Beast set in Gossip Girl world. Basically, in fairy tale fashion, a great looking kid is turned into an ugly monster and must find a girl who will say I love you to him in that form for the spell to reverse. The reason for this is because the kid must find the beauty inside himself. I really did not like this film. It was just as I said, a Gossip Girl-esque movie. Beautiful people complaining to each other about nothing. The movie felt very dark, but the actors couldn’t act. None of the actors in the film are recognizable and that’s probably a good thing. One of the characters had a British accent, which was so obviously fake. Pretty much this was a movie I regretted seeing. I don’t suggest people see this film.

What a shallow and pointless movie this was. It could have been so much more and but it was just another stupid teen romance. The main character Kyle(Alex Pettyfer) is supposed to be transformed into a beast in order to learn his lesson but he does not look that scary at all and that defeats the whole purpose of the film. The girl who is supposed to fall in love with him despite his “hideous” looks, played by Vanessa Hudgens, is not even scared or shocked by his appearance(why would she be really) and it hurts the whole point of the story. Vanessa Hudgens is also pretty bad in this role and she is not believable at all. Overall, this film was a huge waste of my time.

Yet another teen romance that turned my favourite fairy tale “Beauty and the Beast” into cheap and stupid film. i think the choice of the actors were very poor. Vanessa Hudgens is not believable as a girl who would all in love with an ugly guy and if you do not believe in one of the main characters the movie suffers tremendously. Mary-Kate Olsen was never a good actress and she is still not a good in this film. Alex Pettyfer has trouble with his accent and he was kind of weird in this role. Also, his character does not seem to change that much and his actions are mostly selfish. The dialogue in this film is so stupid and the only actor that makes it intentionally funny is Patrick Harris. In conclusion, do not see this film because it will make you angry and it might make you stupid as well.

Good movie :) could've been better, I agree. But still, not a waste of my time or money because I'm that type of person who has an open mind, very much unlike reviewer #1 and #3 (from bottom). Alex Pettyfer and Vanessa Anne Hudgens gave a great performance on camera. Neil Patrick Harris gave the best performance he could with his given role and I applaud him for it. The moral of the story was indeed that of Beauty and the Beast. I recommend this movie for someone who likes this type of fictional romance, drama, and fantasy. Or you can choose to see this movie if you have an open mind like yours truly. Hope you'll enjoy :)

I am not a fan of reinterpretations for teens. Usually, they get everything completely wrong. Yeah, there's a few exceptions, but most of the time, you have to dumb down the original story and you're left with something overly emotional and annoying (just like most teenagers). Add to this list Beastly, another retelling of the Beauty and the Beast story.

Kyle is a hottie (I guess) and kind of a jerk about, treating those around him he deems as not as attractive as second class citizens. After crossing one of the Olson twins, he get a curse cast on him that turns him into the white Mike Tyson, bald and tattooed. He must find someone within a year who can find his inner beauty, or he'll stay this way.

There is nothing subtle about this film. You know every plot contrivance before it happens. She'll start falling in love with him, then figure out he was a jerk, and then he'll get her back. Neal Patrick Harris shows up as a blind tutor, yet he's the only one who can "see" what's going on. Get it. Yeah, it's that bad. Don't waste your time, unless you're an 11 year old girl and enjoy this sort of thing.
