User reviews on Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
This movie is very original, has gorgeous cinematography, perfect performances and a style all it's own. Yes, it is long, and slow. Folks who want 3:10 to Yuma, go see 3:10 to Yuma. But folks who want to see something different and thought provoking and who appreciate cinema and the quiet beauty a wide shot of a wheat field can provide, not to mention Casey Affleck's Oscar-worthy performance, go see this movie, and don't wait for DVD!
This is the worst movie I have ever seen!
Now I know why the movie was finished 3 years ago and not released. This is a terrible movie and does not even deserve DVD release. There are no twists to the plot and since it is based on fact the outcome is known. The movie moves at a snails pace. There were only six people in the theater and three left an hour into the movie. I like Brad Pitt and Ridley Scott but this is a disaster.
Sa ve your money and see anything else.
A wonderful art Western that strolls leisurely to its inevitable outcome, as the title suggests. When Robert Ford (Casey Affleck), joins the infamous James gang, we know that he will one day kill one of the most infamous criminals of the 19th century, Jesse James (Brad Pitt). The film fills in the details, showing us the reasons why Robert Ford did what he did on that significant day. Director Andrew Dominik’s take on history has a homoerotic subtext suggesting Ford killed what he couldn’t have. Pitt is understated and intimidating as Jesse James and Affleck is perfect as Ford, an annoying celebrity obsessed boy. A daring script, excellent performances and spectacular photography make this film a work of art.
This was an oscar worthy film! It had a realistic & intriguing plot. The acting & cinematography were top notch. One of the best westerns of all time in my opinion.
This is one of the dullest, slow moving, plodding movies you'll ever see. Two hours of boredom. It's not what you expect. Yes, the cinematography is very good and Brad Pitt is a terrific actor, but it's not enough. The other actors are annoying and like cartoon characters. The story is confusing and you never know why Jesse is killing his old buddies (and you don't care). The infrastructure of this movie has zero chemistry. My wife finds even dull movies 'interesting'. She slept through this one. Bring a pillow.
You'd be hard pressed to find a slower moving film. Pitt was fun to watch but even his talent could not keep the audience from growing restless. Sad to say, I was more than ready for the assassination to arrive and even that was a real bore. Save your $. I recommend the dvd as a great alternative to your sleep aid of choice...ZZZZZZ ZZZZZ
