I can not stomach Russel Brand for extended period of time and this film had way too much of him and his annoying personality. I think with any other actor this film would have been bearable unfortunately Russel Brand is the lead actor and he pretty much ruins the whole film for me. I loved the old film and Dudley Moore was so good in the role and Russel Brand does not even come close to the level of Moore’s ability to act. The film was not funny either and it is supposed to be a comedy. Overall, I do not recommend seeing it.

The original Arthur holds a special place in my heart as one of the first movies I ever saw in a theater. It wasn’t what most parents would consider appropriate for a 7 year old, but I have a mom with a wicked sense of humor, and she couldn’t find a babysitter. Even at 7, I loved this movie. It was funny, had heart, and an incredible performance from Sir John Gielgud. To remake this film isn’t the travesty some people think it is, but that doesn’t make it a good movie. It’s pretty much the same story: rich drunk and free spirit Arthur is being forced to marry a woman he doesn’t love by his mom just to keep his money. He then meets a woman who forces him to choose between the two. Here, though, is an update starring Russell Brand, and instead of having a drunk, we have, well, Russell Brand. Known for his over the top energy, thick accent and drug history, Brand doesn’t inhabit the character; the character is him. They should have just called the movie Russell: Based on the film Arthur. That’s truth in advertising. It’s got the basics of the original film, but just drops Brand in there to be himself. How you feel about the movie will probably be based on how you feel about Brand as a performer. I find him annoying and not particularly funny, so I’ll just go back to the original.

I have not seen the original film but i have enjoyed this one and i do recommend seeing it in the theaters. Russel Brand was very funny and he was so energetic and cute in this film. The film is full of great actors like Helen Mirren and Jennifer Garner and I have enjoyed watching them in this film. i do have to say that he movie was a little bit out of touch with reality, it did not mention the recession once and it was hard to care for Arthur’s problem when you know he is loaded. Besides that, it was a light hearted comedy and I had a good time watching it.

I absolutely hate Russel Brand, i think he is annoying and not funny at all, therefore my review will be biased. This film is a remake of 1981 comedy with Dudley Moore and Liza Minnnelli and it is not a good remake. First of all, Russel Brand does not have the charm and natural charisma that Dudley Moore had and the film feels uninspired and kind of boring. I have to admit that Russel Brand worked hard on this role, he is quite alright as Arthur but still not nearly as good as Moore was. Overall, if you are a fan of Brand you will probably enjoy this film and even think it is quite funny, for me it was a complete waste of time.
