I did not like this film and I do not recommend seeing it in the theaters. I did not like the way it was filmed(camera was always way too close to the faces of the actors) and I think that the director did not really know what to do with the main character beyond examining her pores(that is how close the camera got at one point). However, the star of the film paprika Steen was absolutely amazing, i have never seen this actress before and I was was blown away by her performance. I kept thinking that the film was terrible but i could not stop watching because Steen was absolutely amazing.

This is a film about struggle with alcohol and struggle with getting your life back on track. I really liked this film and I highly recommend seeing it in the theaters. Paprika Steen made this film excellent and without her it would be only mediocre, she was absolutely amazing and I hope she gets acknowledged for this role. The film is really sad and heartbreaking and it is hard to watch it sometimes but it is brutally honest and I admire that. I have seen many films like this one but what made this film different was the way Steen made her character feel very real and extremely lost, it was a pleasure to watch her on the big screen.

I’m a fan of European films from Florida and I have been looking forward to watching the Danish film, “Applause” for a long time. Although it was in full-color, the image looked like black and white with a number of smoky images in the bar scenes and the cloudy Danish weather. I liked the way the soundtrack was used, as it was really minimal and didn’t distract me from the actor’s performances. The movie looked deep into Paprika Steen’s character (Thea) of a mother, ex-wife, and actress. I enjoyed how Paprika acted the two sides of herself, a mother’s sweet love for her children and her madness. It was so realistic. In my opinion, I really enjoy European films because the actor/actress’ performances and expressions make the most of their ability. In addition, after I watched the film, I really thought about idea of marriage and having children because people always change over time depending on their situation and the environment that they live in. Thea’s character was powerful, dynamic and so realistic.
