The star-system was pronounced dead by almost everyone, but as of the moment of writing everyone is talking about Liza Minnelli in Cabaret and she made the covers of Time and Newsweek simultaneously. Contrast the …

Who’s That Girl?

Submitted by Matt Sills on February 18, 2011 – 1:12 pmNo Comment

Unless you live under a rock, you probably watched the Super Bowl, and if you did, you saw the teaser trailer for Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon.  Amongst the explosions and giant robots, you probably noticed the absence of a certain actress, and caught that 2 second glimpse of a stunning blue-eyed blonde.  And you may have asked your buddy, his face awash in Cheeto dust, “Where’s Megan Fox, and who the heck was that?”

Before we answer that second question, let’s take it back a couple of years to June of 2009.  Transformers, released two years earlier, has become one of the biggest blockbusters of all time, and has made Megan Fox a household name.  Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen is about to be released, and there’s already talk about the third Transformers movie.  Fox is making the rounds with the press, and all she really has to do is smile, say how great is was to work with director Michael Bay, and she’s in line for a gigantic paycheck on the next sequel.  Instead, she makes the first in a line of incredibly disparaging comments against the film.  She saves her sharpest barbs for Bay, saying he cares more about action than acting, and likening him to both Napoleon and Hitler.  At first, Bay just plays it off, blaming Fox’s verbal diarrhea on her youth.  But Fox keeps going, continuously biting the hand that feeds her, even as each movie she’s in (Jennifer’s Body and Jonah Hex, for example) is released and bombs.  Finally, early last year, it’s announced that she won’t be appearing in Dark Side of the Moon, to no one’s surprise.

Which brings me back to the title of this article:  Who’s that girl in the trailer?  She’s Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.  Even though you may never have heard the name before, you’ve probably seen the face.  Huntington-Whiteley has been modeling since 2003, doing work for Abercrombie & Fitch, DKNY and Ralph Lauren among others.  In 2006, she began modeling for Victoria’s Secret, and in 2010, she became one of their Angels.  So, she’s got an extensive modeling resume, but how does a girl with no film or television credits on IMDB (save for appearance on the televised Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and Britain’s Next Top Model) catch the eye of one of the biggest directors in Hollywood and a role in a multi-billion dollar sequel?  It’s actually not that big a stretch.  You see, Bay, who started his career in music videos and commercials, has directed several Victoria’s Secret ads, including the 2009 holiday spot featuring, you guessed it, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.  So he’s definitely familiar with her “work”.  And who knows, maybe she’s an incredible actress who will amaze us with her abilities.  Or…maybe she’s just there to look good.  It doesn’t really matter.  Bay knows his audience (read: 13 year old boys) and knows what they want to see:  a hot girl to look at between all of the giant robot battles and explosions.  And it looks like that’s exactly what they’re going to get.
