Currently over 10 million Muslims can recite the Koran. In fact that is the meaning of the Koran...to recite. Many people believe the apocalyptic world comes from a future war between Muslim and Christian believers. Eli treats the book like Muslims treat the Koran. For example, you cannot touch unless you are clean, swaddling & kissing, and recitation of the Bible. Eli does not mention his faith. He just knows that he has been asked by a voice to deliver the Bible to the "West." Interestingly the book is hidden in a TV (America's / the West's competitor to the Bible).
