Vivek Anand Oberoi (Punjabi: ਵਿਵੇਕ ਓਬੇਰੋਈ, Hindi: विवेक ओबरॉय, born 3 September 1976 in Hyderabad) is an Indian actor and social activist. He is the son of Bollywood actor Suresh Oberoi and Yashodhara. Oberoi's father is from Amritsar, Punjab, India belonging to a Punjabi Khatri while his mother is a Tamil from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. He attended Mayo College, in Ajmer. His big break came when filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma offered Oberoi a role in his gangster film, Company (2002). He can speak Hindi, English, fluent Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Marathi and some Nepalese, Kannada, Spanish and Bengali. Vivek Oberoi debuted in Ram Gopal Varma's film Company. He received Filmfare Awards for Best Debut as well as Best Supporting Actor. He then starred in the action films, Road and Dum. In Dum, he played the role of a man trying to become a part of Indian police but faces many troubles with a police inspector named Encounter Shankar, and finally kills him. Next, he starred in Saathiya (2002) directed by Shaad Ali, and in the comedy Masti (2004). In 2004, he starred in Yuva. In 2006, he appeared in Omkara, an adaptation of Shakespeare's play Othello.
