Takashi Sasano (笹野高史, Sasano Takashi, born June 22, 1948) is a Japanese actor best known in the West for his role in the Academy Award-winning Japanese film Departures. He is known to master variety of acting styles. He often appears in the films of Yoji Yamada and is often seen in Japanese historical plays Takashi has called himself the "one scene actor" due to his policy of usually not declining acting offers. Sasano was born in to a family of sake manufacturers in Ichinomiya, Awaji island, as the fourth boy in the family. He lost both parents when young. Sasano joined a theater group in 1968 when he was a student at Nihon University. For awhile he was also occupied as a sailor, but did not give up on his ambition on becoming an actor. In year 1979 he received notice for his role in the play "Shanghai pansu kingu". In 1985 he appeared in the Yoji Yamada film "Otoko wa Tsurai yo - Shibamata yori Ai wo Komete" (男はつらいよ 柴又より愛をこめて, lit, "It's tough being a man - from Shibamata with Love") and has since been a regular in the films of Yamada.
