Susan Abigail Sarandon is an American actress. She is an Academy Award and BAFTA Award winner. She received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2009 Stockholm International Film Festival and was honoured for her "Outstanding Contribution to World Cinema" at the 2011 Shanghai International Film Festival. Sarandon began her career in the 1970 film Joe and appeared in the soap opera A World Apart from 1970 to 1971. She made her Broadway debut in the original 1972 production of An Evening with Richard Nixon, and went on to receive Drama Desk Award nominations for the Off-Broadway plays A Coupla White Chicks Sitting Around Talking and Extremities. She received the first of her five Best Actress Academy Award nominations for Atlantic City, and went on to be nominated for Thelma & Louise, Lorenzo's Oil and The Client, before finally winning for Dead Man Walking. For the latter, she also won a Screen Actors Guild Award. She has also won a Best Actress BAFTA Award for The Client, and two Best Foreign Actress David di Donatello Awards for Thelma & Louise and Dead Man Walking.
