Rafe Joseph Spall (born 10 March 1983) is an English actor. He landed an agent after he was spotted in a National Youth Theatre production of Nicholas Nickleby and has since appeared on TV and the stage, and in films and radio productions. He has also worked with the band Arkane. He has appeared in both of Edgar Wright's feature films as well as appearing in Wright's Grindhouse (2007) segment Don't. Spall appears in a number of forthcoming productions including the screen adaptation of Barrie Keeffe's play Sus, and the Channel 4 comedy series Pete v Life. In 2009 he worked on Roland Emmerich's Anonymous, in which he plays William Shakespeare. Spall was born in East Dulwich, London, England and is the son of actor Timothy Spall. He lives in West Kensington with his wife Elize du Toit, who he married on 14 August 2010. He was named after the title character in The Knight of the Burning Pestle which his father played in the Royal Shakespeare Company's 1981 production of the play, and which Rafe himself played in 2005.. He attended the school Haberdashers' Aske's Hatcham College in New Cross Gate. From 2004–2006 he was in a relationship with his The Rotter's Club co-star Alice Eve. In
