Mary Elizabeth Ellis (born May 11, 1979 in Laurel, Mississippi) is an American actress and writer best known for her recurring role as "The Waitress" on the FX comedy series It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. She also stars in the upcoming NBC sitcom Perfect Couples. Ellis has appeared on a number of television shows, including Cold Case, Without A Trace, House M.D., and Reno 911!. In 2008 she wrote and portrayed the lead role of Olive in the independent film A Quiet Little Marriage. Ellis and Artemis Pebdani (Artemis on Always Sunny) wrote and starred together in the stage show "Mother May I Dance With Mary Jane's Fist? A Lifetime Original Play" at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in Los Angeles. In May 2010, NBC announced that Ellis would star in the upcoming television series Perfect Couples. The half-hour romantic comedy is expected to premiere for the 2010–11 television season. Ellis is married to actor Charlie Day. Day writes, directs, produces and plays the role of "Charlie" on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. On the show, Charlie's unrequited obsession with Ellis' character is a recurring theme. The couple married on March 4, 2006.
