Ellen Kathleen Pompeo was born in Everett, Massachusetts, the daughter of Joseph, a salesman, and Kathleen Pompeo. Pompeo is of Irish and Italian descent and was raised Roman Catholic. Her grandfather was born in Gesualdo, a village in the Province of Avellino, Italy.
