He produced amongst others, the Franco Zeffirelli Hamlet, starring Mel Gibson, and Francis Ford Coppola's 1984 box-office flop The Cotton Club, starring Richard Gere and Diane Lane. Lovell has played supporting roles in such films as the Zeffirelli Romeo and Juliet as Sampson.
